FROM THE DESK OF COMMANDER DAVID MAY

I would like to thank the delegates of the Department of Ohio 89th Annual Convention for giving me the opportunity to serve as your State Commander.  I am truly appreciative and honored to have National Sr. Vice Commander Wally Tyson as our Installing Officer.  We wish Wally the very best for the upcoming year as our DAV National Commander.

Many thanks, to the members (blue hats) who served on our convention Nominating Committee and a big thank you to all of our Past Department Commanders and PDC Robert Bertschy, a long time friend, for their recommendation for another one-year commitment to serve as a Department Officer.

Last year, National Service Officer David Bilinovich summed it up by using the phrase “DAV Team Ohio”.  It’s our responsibility as DAV members to follow DAV CORE VALUES…Service, Quality, Integrity, and Leadership, to build better lives for Ohio’s disabled veterans and their families.  As your State Commander and with the dedication of our State Executive Committee, our State Adjutant Frank Williams, our PDC’s, our District Commanders, our Chapter Commanders, our National Service Officers, and you, DAV Ohio members, networking with our Auxiliary members throughout Ohio, we can and will keep DAV TEAM OHIO, a premier veteran’s service organization.  Our disabled veterans and their families deserve our best efforts and resources by networking together in accomplishing all DAV and DAVA goals.  I and our newly-elected State Executive Committee will be committed to DAV Team Ohio.  Welcome aboard Dennis Hanneman and welcome back Martha Tepker.

This year will be a very special one, as I look forward to serving with DAV Auxiliary State Commander Debby Hall who is from Alliance Unit 50 and our DAVA State Adjutant Joyce Hutchinson.

To have a successful Convention or Fall Conference it takes a lot of good people to make it happen.  One Team I would like to shout-out a big thank you is Defiance Chapter 36 and Unit 36 members for hosting our Hospitality Room during the convention.  THANK YOU!  A job well done and appreciated!

Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend our Department Fall Conference in October.  For those members going to DAV National Convention in Atlanta, I will see you there at our District 11 meeting on Friday afternoon.

Always remember, Department is here to assist any chapter who may feel they need some help to keep their chapter up and running to do the DAV Mission, Service.  We are a phone call away.

God bless you, the DAV, and those serving in our military.  Also, please keep those serving in harms way in your prayers.

David May, State Commander

FROM THE HOSPITAL CHAIRMAN RAYMOND HUTCHINSON

The 2009-2010 year is almost over.  It has been a busy year for both the DAV and DAVA Commanders.  The Commanders, along with the DAV and DAVA Adjutants and myself have toured all the VA Medical Centers and two State Homes during the past year.

Each tour was very informative and each time that I tour these facilities I learn and see something new.  When we are touring these facilities we talk to the patients and visit with them.

I am looking forward to the upcoming year and taking the new Commanders on their tours.

Please consider volunteering at your local VA Medical Center or State home. It is a very rewarding experience.

I want to thank all the VAVS and State Home Representatives that put on parties and programs throughout the year at their facility.  We also have sent over $9,000 to the Medical Centers and State Homes purchasing items from their wish lists.

We appreciate all the donations that the chapters give to our State Hospital Fund.  Without it we would not be able to do all the work we do.  THANKYOU!

FROM THE DESK OF STATE ADJUTANT FRANK WILLIAMS
